Penny Edgell is a Distinguished University Teaching Professor in the department of sociology at the University of Minnesota. Her research on religion and nonreligion in the contemporary United States has appeared in range of outlets including the American Sociological Review, Poetics, Social Forces, Social Problems, The Annual Review of Sociology and Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion. She is the author of Congregations in Conflict (1999, Cambridge), Religion and Family in a Changing Society (2005, Princeton), and co-editor of Religion in Raced (2020, NYU).
